Burnout

Burnout

Burnout is a syndrome which today can occur in younger years, but often still emerges in the later years of life. Whereas it previously occurred mainly in people working in the medical and teaching professions, today it is a widespread syndrome found in all occupational groups.

Burnout syndrome primarily describes a condition of chronic exhaustion following mostly longer phases of physical and mental strain. The symptoms of burnout are diverse and vary individually in their occurrence and severity: depression and also physiological symptoms such as sleep disorders, headaches, stomach cramps, tinnitus or physical functional disorders.

The hormones in the body always become unbalanced in the presence of burnout syndrome. The production of melatonin, which regulates the circadian rhythm (body clock), is inhibited above all. There is also a drop in important hormones such as oestradiol, testosterone, cortisol and DHEA.

Aside from the usual, important therapies for burnout, such as rest, vitamin and mineral supplements, a change in lifestyle and assessment of one's own physical fitness, temporary substitution with natural hormones can be of utmost benefit to treatment and lead to more rapid recovery.
